What Is a 3MF File?
3MF (3D Manufacturing Format) is a modern file format developed by the 3MF Consortium (Microsoft, Autodesk, Dassault Systèmes, HP, and others) specifically for additive manufacturing. Unlike STL, which only stores raw triangle geometry, 3MF uses XML-based structure inside a ZIP container to store colors, materials, textures, print settings, and multiple objects in a single file. This makes it the preferred format for multi-color and multi-material 3D printing workflows.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I open a 3MF file online?
Upload your .3MF file into the viewer above, then rotate, zoom, and inspect it directly in your browser without installing software.
Is this 3MF viewer free?
Yes. You can open and preview 3MF files for free in your browser, with no signup required.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Files are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to any server. Your data stays on your device.
Does it support colors and materials?
Yes. The viewer previews 3MF colors and material-related information when present in the file, including multi-color and multi-material models.
Can I use it on mobile?
Yes. The viewer supports touch controls on mobile and tablet devices for rotating, zooming, and panning.
What is the difference between 3MF and STL?
3MF can store richer manufacturing data such as colors, materials, and print-related information, while STL mainly stores geometry only. 3MF files are also typically smaller due to ZIP compression.
